OP, is your house the one with 1,000 photos of the basement bar (and basically nothing else)?

DH put ours up on his FB because we have a tight community in our NW neighbourhood and lots of times word of mouth help sells it.

My only hesitation would be long-ago friends not doing as well who'd see the price and feel awkward. (example: I know one friend who had been out of work for months)

As it turns out, though we had interest from 'friends of neighbours' and 'friends of friends' an out of towner bought it. I actually feel bad about this because they ended up being kind of @ssholes and the community didn't deserve that. We'd rather have sold to friends.

That's why I'm uncomfortable with it. And it's only a $789k home, so not some DMV mansion.

It will some become the norm, if it isn't already. I know your name or address alone, I can already look up how much you paid, your property tax bill (and if you've ever been late), permits pulled on your property, and fines levied against you, and search the recorder of deeds for your loan documents, including how much you borrowed and how much you had as a down payment.

Social media word-of-mouth is fantastic for drumming up interest. Your friends here undoubtedly know someone else who is looking to buy, especially if you're in a good neighborhood. If I need a fast and easy sale, I'd rather sell to a friend-of-a-friend who has a reputation to uphold than a random person who saw my house on Redfin. Even a small element of trust through a common friends means people will be more likely to be well behaved through the transaction (though I realize there are exceptions to every rule).

I can see someone posting on social media because they're excited and want everyone to know but you aren't getting any offers from social media. People looking to buy are using a realtor or at least checking real estate sites. I would probably feel uncomfortable with it being on social media too because everyone I know or ever knew needs to know what my house costs, especially people from cheaper areas I grew up with that have no idea what things cost around here. I can see both sides. Can help with word of mouth, but also intrusive into house price, pics, etc.

When we sold I didn't put our listing on social media because I didn't want everyone in the world looking at my house photos, knowing we were moving, knowing when open houses are. I realize they can find that information out if they want to, but I didn't want to advertise it. It seems very intrusive to my privacy. Probably no one cares but I do.
People who are looking for a house will find yours without Facebook.

Just listed our house for sale and DH threw up the link to the listing on social media.

I'm super uncomfortable with that (mostly because I don't like acquaintances inferring anything about our finances), so I asked him to take it down, but he figured it was no big deal and might help spread the word.

What are your thoughts on posting your home listing on social media?
