OP here. That's what I was asking about - work hours. I assumed it more of an around the clock type job, in general.

+1 Navy are intellectuals, Marines are smart, and very sexy. Worked around a ton of them, not military, never dated military.

The idea that they are very fit - that's true. What many people don't realize is that they're also usually very impressively smart.

My FIL was career Marines. He treated my exDW like a princess and never trusted me. He was controlling over my MIL and his kids were F'd up as they moved so much while they focused on his career. The only good thing about him is his generosity to his Grandchildren.

Easy to get caught up in dating a soldier. Yes he could deploy again over the next few years.

DH (Naval Academy grad and Marine officer) said they come in all different flavors--white guys from rural <fill in the blank>, inner city types who need to get out, etc. Plus a smattering of people who want the GI Bill and who may have college degrees already. But most don't. Trend conservative, especialy if white. But there is no "one size fits all"

My DH was in the Marines.

Marines tend to be younger than the other branches and, yes, they tend to go to the worst places. But the values tend to be the same broadly no matter the branch (I'm from a military family). My DH did three stints and then got out. He earned his undergrad while in and then used his benefits for grad school. He was married to someone else while he served and deployments were a source of strain. She cheated.

So, huge generalizations here, but my spouse was in the Navy, so I've met a fair number of Marines.

In general, they're more likely to go to horrible places and see horrible things (e.g. less likely to have a desk job like someone in the Air Force)

They're in shape, hard working, have a strong identity to being an "American", cocky, and in my experience (and it may just relate to the dozen or so I happen to know), show some level of intolerance to those practicing Islam.

My sister just started dating a U.S. Marine.

What are Marines like (I realize this is a big generalization question, but whatever)? Do they actually have free time to "date"?

If he just came back from deployment, is he likely to be deployed again soon?
