I'm pretty sure they allow any religious person, but a person's religious organization frowns upon membership due some of its cult-like nature.

Has roots in medieval stone masons and was brought to the new world by the colonials. George Washington was a prominent Mason, and the Masonic Temple in Alexandria is a monument to him.

The Masons run Shriners which is a hospital system for children with free care. They have a circus, and old men who drive around in tiny clown cars with funny hats.

They do a lot of weird, secret ceremony type stuff. My grandfather was one and they did a ceremony at his funeral which was CREEPY and weird.

I always thing of Eyes Wide Shut or they Simpsons when I think of Masons.

I was a Rainbow Girl as a kid in the Midwest in the late '70s/early '80s and at that time, at least, it just seemed like a social club with some kooky but harmless "secret" rituals thrown in for group bonding. I loved it because at the ceremonies we got to dress up in long gowns and it felt very glamorous, haha. Most of the time it was just doing things like bake sales for charity, potluck dinners, and floats at parades. However there may well have been a Stonecutter aspect to the whole thing I was too young to recognize at the time.

My grandfather was a mason. It was largely a club for old guys. They fundraised for charity a lot and had "ladies nights" where my grandmother would go along for dinner and dancing.

I think they have strange habits, like the handshakes and they roll up their trouser legs, wear silly hats and make pledges.

Their costumes cost a lot of money.

Traditionally it would bring different professions together, like police, teachers, other middle-range workers so they could know each other for favors when necessary.

I also fully believe they sit around watching porn. But that's just my opinion.

We moved into a new neighborhood and noticed our neighbors have Freemason plates on their cars. Obviously we won't ask them but we are very curious. Csn someone tell me tell me what it is all about. Google wasn't very helpful.
