Does a funeral count? We had a great time, which would have pleased my 89 year old FIL.

Nope, and no thanks, double that no thanks if it were my ILs we were talking about - been there done that with them and no mother-effing way again. Never done it with my family and would rather keep it that way so I don't have feelings of wanting to murder them in their sleep.

Well, at least you're not paying money to hate being at the beach since your in-laws are presumably not charging you.

No thank god. Done it twice in the past. Never again.

I did. Never again.

I did it because my parent was ill and got better, and it was a milestone and this was wanted more than a party.

By the time we took the picture, we were so ready to kill each other. Through his smile I could hear my sibling say, "You have 2 minutes to take this and I'm out,". He's almost 50.

My tween offered to take the photo to avoid being in it. I paid him $20 to smile.

My jr. tween asked if we could only go on vacations with our "fake cousins" from then on (friends).

One family member accused another of being on the spectrum (adults) and was told that it isn't a lack of understanding others, they just don't care.

Even my parent, at the end of the week, said next time, 3/10 people are invited. I downed 2 mimosas when we check out before coffee arrived at brunch.

I will look back on this fondly SOMEDAY, maybe.
A therapist would say my kids now know that perfect families don't exist, and that is valuable.

I say this because if you saw my family on facebook, you'd think it was happy, unless you knew us.

That picture is a gift to my parent and all she wanted.

Yes; lake with my family, beach with his. Both trips were nice.

No, thank God! Lol! It's more likely that we would be picking up the tab and making plans rather than the other way around!

I have never gone to the beach with my in-laws.

No, but we will in October (cousins, parents, siblings, grandkids). All the families will split equally and pay our own way.

No.
I hate the beach.
I never vacation with extended family if I can help it.

How would you even know that? We do the beach vacation with our extended family and we split it equally. We don't talk to our friends about who pays what on vacations.

Yup. 1 week beach vacation with MIL, FIL and SIL's family. Two long weekends at my parent's place. 1 long weekend at SIL's place. But just because it's the case for my family, doesn't mean that it's the case for "everyone." When I grew up, my parents were immigrants and all our vacations were just our nuclear family. I think because of that, I prize the extended family time for my kids.

No, but I also feel like we are the only ones (of our group of friends) whose parents didn't pay for a mansion in the sand with a swimming pool for all their kids.

According to Facebook (the joy thief/CompareBook, FakeBook), we are the only ones who did not go on a big beach vacation with grandparents and sisters and aunts and uncles.

Did you?
