Is there a secret to addressing a cover letter when you truly don't know (and have no way to learn) the name of the hiring manager? Job sites are filled with conflicting info, ranging from "Dear Hiring Manager" to leaving off the salutation entirely to just taking educated guess on who the hiring manager is. (The last option seems beyond stupid to me.)
When applying to jobs at companies with hundreds or thousands of employees, when there is sometimes overlap in group functions, or some jobs require clearance and secrecy, what is the best approach if you can't network your way in? Will "Dear Hiring Manager" pass muster?
Thanks!
