Yes, in the 1950's. But, even in that scenario, that rule should only apply to first date or two. After that, if only one person is driving the relationship, it's doomed to fail.

He's not into you and he is just kind of keeping you on the back burner and stringing you along just in case. Drop him and move on.

He's either not into you (but keeping you as a backup) or he's a mess on wheels who can't even follow up adequately on his interest in someone. Either way, move on.

If you feel compelled to talk to other men and date other people then go for it. You don't have to get permission from dude. Hell you can have an enjoyable evening with 3 different guys 3 nights in a row - dinner with John, dancing with James, and go-cart racing with Josh - if you want to you're more than welcome to live your life as you wish.

Now if you aren't capable of casually dating numerous people, if you're one of those types who has to be hyper-focused on one person at a time then I'd say drop him.

Stupid question I know, but I'm back to dating after 3 years of being single. Met a man, hit it off, used to text me all the time, now calls only once a day. He hasn't even asked to go out to dinner or anything.I don't text or call him because I don't want to look "eager". We've been talking for over a month now. I know he has flexibility to text and call at his job. Should I just play it day-day or just drop him and date other people?
