yes, do it. plus, public institution perhaps means more stability long term, and you can work for a raise. that 2 hours with kids or gym or whatever is so precious. better for your help...

+1. Both earners in our household did it and I swear we'd be divorced if we hadn't. Work to live, not the other way around.

I wouldn't hesitate to take the paycut. It will only make a few hundred bucks per paycheck.

The cut in commute time alone is worth it in my eyes!

There was recently a study that said that people who pay more for time (i.e. outsource things) are happier than those who pay more for stuff. Getting a job with a shorter commute is essentially paying for time. I'd do it.

Well calculate how much the extra pro is worth. That's money for not working essentially. And 10k is a tiny pay cut. You'll make that back and have the shorter commute and other perks I'd take it no question

Commuting is killing you and your family. Your not taking a pay cut you are taking an investment in your health and happiness. Ten thousand seems like a great investment.

Take it! I took a bigger paycut than that and it was the BEST decision ever (also had 2 kids in daycare at the time, 1 is in elementary now)

I might take a pay cut for the commute alone

Do it!! I have taken a much larger payout before and it was the best decision of my life.

Plus, the studies about long commutes making people miserable are pretty compelling. That alone would be a factor for me.

In a heartbeat. Twice the paid time off + a humane commute means your quality of life will improve, plus life's to short to be so miserable.

I’ve been miserable at my current job for the last year. I have a brutal 1-1:30 hour commute and client is awful, but I make $95K and work from home one day a week. I just received an offer for a great job at a public institution paying $10K less, and no regular work from home. However, I would have an easy 30 minute commute, double the PTO and a much better work environment overall. I think I would be very happy at this job, but we have 2 kids in daycare and it feels irresponsible to take a cut. Would you do it?
