Even if there's no scheduled call, it would be nice if the kids could easily text the other parent now and then. I think you get them basic phones and use one of the management apps to limit their contact to either parent.

I think it depends on custody agreement. If the kids move back and forth with just a few days in between, I can't imagine a rigid schedule is feasible without cell phones. Is a daily call necessary? Not divorced but my DH travels extensively. He doesn't call every night. The disruption would drive me nuts if he called in the middle of dinner/bath which are not strictly timed for me (some days earlier/later or some days we're just out)

Planning on filing soon.
Given that the likely result is 50/50 custody, the kids (under age 10) will be seeing both parents frequently anyway.
Many divorce books recommend setting up a contact schedule. But how often should the contacts be made, and when? One call a day before bedtime?
Right now the kids don't have their own phones, and we weren't planning on getting them for quite a while. Get them phones so they can call when they want?
