Yes. In June we decided to pay off our house. We were 7 years into a 15 year mortgage, had enough in checking to cover a year's worth of bills and whatever we might need so we dipped and feel good about it. By December it will be all paid back. The fund wasn't drained. We had $10,000 left.

We didn't have to, we wanted to.

Yes, initial phase of divorce drained it. Went into cc debt and then took an early inheritance to finish the process.

Rebuilt it. Became ill and drained it. Filed bankruptcy.

Rebuilding.

Used ours all up 5 years ago when husband was unemployed for a while. We never replenished it- new job was better than no job but the pay was significantly less.

Yes. It's why I don't have a Roth IRA anymore. I had to use it to live on.

I dipped into mine while on maternity leave. Never fully replenished what I took out ($5K).

Yup. Needed a new roof. Put it on a credit card and liquidated a couple CDs to pay it off when the bill came.

Yes, a couple of times when my husband had protracted periods of joblessness (18 months and 6 months, enough to live on, you do the math). His older brother even had to loan us money, the good man. I'm forever grateful.

You're joking right? Of course, I used it for extra downpayment money. No regrets.

I have a small one, and may need to use it for the mortgage if the government shuts down.

Was your E-fund liquid?

I responded in the other thread with our situation where a HELOC or cc wouldn't have worked or would havebeen less than ideal due. We have an EF of $75k and we used about $55-60k of it.
