Not when you account for inflation, it didn't, and the Council had to add money when Bowser's initial budget underfunded the schools. Wilson's budget and staffing have been slashed repeatedly.

Ellington's building is stunning, but how stupid can they be to realize that it is the quality of the program and how it runs that is more important than the building? Maybe should have budgeted better and put some city money elsewhere.

No surprises here. The city lavishes hundreds of millions of dollars on beautifying high schools like Dunbar and Coolidge that are mostly empty, and Ellington, which serves few students. Meanwhile the one large neighborhood school that's in high demand--Wilson--lacks the resources it needs to run smoothly, and that's putting it mildly.

Stop the madness.

That is beyond frustrating.

It isn't just Wilson. Lots of issues at Ellington too.

Why does Wilson always have such a chaotic start to the school year with student schedules messed up as usual? My 9th grader got none of the electives she picked and the counseling office is crazy busy and no one will see her. There is only 1 counselor for all of 9th grade. My 10th grader has 3 classes with 35 kids in them. She also heard that some kids could not get into Spanish because it was completely full. The overcrowding and budget cuts are a bad combination. What exactly is wrong with DCPS for creating and maintaining this untenable situation?
