I second Tufts. Also American, GW, try for Georgetown, and NYU. I think Penn is a reach but try it. Cooper Union is a walking to the beat of your own drum type place but it is in the middle of NYC. She may want to try Kings College London or Edinburgh if she is willing to go abroad. Also what about the American University in Paris?

Rice, UCLA, Boston University or Boston College, Tulane, Hopkins, UPenn, Cooper Union.

If she will broaden her "ideally in a city" factor, she will also broaden her choices. All the HS grads want to be in a city these days. Trust me; BTDT. Is the city location the PRIMARY factor? If not, make sure she applies to some more far-flung choices. You will both be glad she did.

She doesn't want a hot climate (nixed Tulane, for instance) and doesn't mind snow. Schools she likes so far range from 3,000 to 15,000 undergrads and are in New England and mid Atlantic.

What size of school does she like?
Weather?

Do kids not pick their own schools anymore? Where does she want to go?

George Washington University
Georgetown University
Johns Hopkins University

Jesuit schools (and some other religious orders) are known for social justice. Loyola Chicago? Fordham?

Wellesley

DD is a senior at a rigorous private, 4.0 weighted GPA (strong curriculum but not AP-level across the board), 1460 on SAT (730 +730), two-sport varsity athlete and team captain, has won significant recognition for her art and has been active in other ECs. In other words, successful, well-rounded kid but no hooks. Wants to study international relations, is passionate about numerous social justice causes, wants and politically active and diverse campus, ideally in a city. She's made some visits and has a couple of favorites but wants to expand her list--where would you have her look?
