It is fun. The on line game is fun, and play is at least in part cooperative. I don't see any issues.

Kids like to play in a community for many reasons: the randomness of real humans is more fun, and you can partner.

Just monitor. At least with my kid, the regular bunch of strangers he played with were simply interested in the game. There was never conversation about anything but the game, and they were not so competitive that it mattered if I cut him off sometimes.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 comes out in Nov. Preorder him that for brownie points.

Yes, let him do it online. It's the only way these boys play. However, I only let my DS friend people he knows IRL.

Ditto. My DS (14) rarely plays videogames alone. He'd much rather play with his friends and I think it's better for him to do it as a social activity (they all have gaming headsets and talk together the whole time they are playing) than solo. Bonus - I can eavesdrop on at least his side of the conversation and pick up a bit about what's going on with school, friends, etc. since as a typical 14 yr old he doesn't talk much with parents about that stuff.

Its only $ 60 for the year. Unless you have some objection to online gaming, I'd let him have it. Most of the fun of those games is playing with other people anyway.

Most T rated games would be fine for a 12 year old. Battlefront is particularly harmless.

I allowed T at 11/12. T usually aren't too graphic. I won't buy M until at least 16 but he's played them at friend's houses.

Yeah that game is perfectly fine for 12 year olds. My DS got it at 11 and I'll his friends already had it. We don't allow M games though.

I would have no issue with that game at 12. If you're afraid about a precedent, just make it clear that it's not up front.

There's no blood. My 12yo has it, as do all of his friends. I don't allow 'M' games but am fine with 'T'.

Game is Star Wars Battlefront. This would be his first shoot-em up type game, though he's been playing Minecraft survival mode for a while. Does it make any sense to reject it solely based on the T rating? Would allowing this nullify other age restricted things - movies, internet, driving(!), etc down the road?
