Agree it isn't a firing offense.

Although, if true, it seems to fly in the face of the new social-emotional learning initiative.

I'd have to think there is more to this story. Why were the kids weighed? Did the teacher ask for volunteers? Could other kids see the weight, on most scales the answer would be no.

People who say this is no big deal obviously never had weight problems. I was overweight in middle school and already had self esteem issues. Changing for gym class was the worst part of my day. Being weighed in front of other students would have been horrific. I was teased enough without everyone knowing my weight. And this was at a Montgomery County school people on the Md school board love.

Still not something for which a teacher should be fired.

Why dont' we get some confirmation from an actual Deal family versus something someone read on facebook and extrapolated from.

Hardly an offense for which a teacher should be fired. It just needs to be addressed with the teacher so that it does not happen again.

Maybe it's a health / nutrition class.

I recall being weighed and having body fat percentages taken at school back in the 80s. It was done privately though.

We had to track exercise and food and learn about nutrition.

A local parent coach posted on Facebook her horror that her middle school-aged daughter was weighed in front of other students, who then, of course, shamed one another about the data. This parent coach is upfront and obvious about her neighborhood and that her kids go to public school, so this was Deal. Any other parents hear about this archaic practice? Have we learned nothing about the roots of eating disorders? WTF?
