If you have a lot of local guests and you're going for a Friday night wedding that's doable. If your thinking the middle of the week or during that day that's really hard. I have kids and I can get a babysitter for the evening but finding someone who can pick-up my kids from daycare and school/aftercare and then watch them all night is harder. We would probably pass or just me or DH would go depending on whose friend it is.

My friend had a Thursdat evening wedding ten years ago. I remembered a lot of peole being there. Do what makes you happy.

Sounds like you were reasonable about it. Lots of brides aren't.

Pretty terrible. It's a lot to ask people to take a day off from work for your wedding. Aside from close family and very close friends, no one cares that much.

Plan it in conjunction with something major and you might be surprised at the attendance. Lots of my friends took off for the Eclipse. However November is a tough month because people are ALREADY taking off a lot of leave for Thanksgiving.

Yes - we know people had to take off work. My DH is a teacher, and his two closest friends are teachers so they were off for the summer anyway. Our families didn't mind. Our friends had to take off work a little early. We had a dinner and dancing. It wasn't a late night.

We know that it wasn't convenient. But it worked for us (it was soooo much cheaper), and those that could make it did, and those who couldn't, it was understandable.

I hate them and would probably only attend if it's a sibling. But I think you should go for it. What's more important to you- having a large amount of people at your wedding or having your closest family members watch you get married much sooner?

Friday night is considered the start of the weekend. I personally hate them, too, but it's much better then a weeknight wedding.

Trying to have your cake and eat it too. Either pare back your requirements (venue, number of guests, etc) or have a small wedding you can afford.

People won't attend a weekday wedding. Find a cheaper venue.

If it's a traditional medium to larger sized wedding, with a dinner and dancing and all, I would not like this idea. I don't have kids but I have a lot of things to do during the week and I'd have to get up for work the next day. I imagine it would be a nightmare for people with kids. I've never seen this and I think it would only work for a very small ceremony without a big party afterward.

I think it would be very, very silly to do this just to have some venue that makes for nice pictures, when half the people won't even want to be there because it's such an inconvenience.

Do you want people to attend, or do you not care? If you want people to attend, then it's a problem. If you don't care, then do it your way. (I'm in the selfish camp that doesn't think that anyone other than the bride or groom gets a say in when or where a wedding is, although I don't think you should be completely ignorant of the parents' wishes, but no one else matters).

We're trying to plan a small weekday wedding in early November as we really want to marry this year. Problem is, most guests have children and work, obviously. Is this a terrible idea? Its the only way we can afford our venue.
