Listen up, here is the straight scoop on girls lacrosse the DC metro area:

There are several excellent clubs run by wonderful people who care about the girls, want them to improve, want them to love lacrosse and want them to play the game because they love the game: Stars, Pride, MC Elite, Cardinals, Bethesda Select, Next Level, . There are some other clubs, further out, like Hero's and Rebels that are also good.

The skill level of the girls in the DC area programs varies widely with the first three lists typically having the best players. Most of these clubs have A teams and B teams. If your daughter is wiling to work hard, attend all practices and games and be a good team player she can make one of these B teams even if she is relatively new to the sport (needs 1-2 years of rec under her belt). Stay away from any teams not listed here as the owners/coaches are not good people, are not looking out for your daughter and are not doing it for the love of the game.

OP - this article is 100% legit. After you read it, let your daughter read it. Then tell her to her face whether or not you think this guy represents your families morals, whether you want her to play for him, and that you feel comfortable giving your family's money to this person.

The guy is a psycho. Not nearly as bad as the Madlax psycho, but stay away from this guy.

I second the suggestion for Next Level. Also, in MD try Bethesda Select or Rebels. In VA try Cardinals and maybe even Pride for the B team. Call and see if they are willing to do a practice try out (your daughter attends a practice as her try out). All of these are better clubs with better grown-ups involved than Madlax.

He had a reputation of being a nut job 25 years ago when he was at Hobart and his years as a professional have not changed that. If you have any question, just read the article below:

Stay away - owner of VA Metro has a reputation for body shaming girls. And he is crude and generally obnoxious.

Funny, coach was generally well-liked with her former team. The only incident I know of is that in a tight game against M&D Black she ran a short rotation, which seemed to be a forgivable sin under the circumstances.

Agree with previous poster in part, but some of the Madlax girls teams may draw decent talent. E.g., I think there has been some turnover on the NOVA 2021 and 2022 teams and not all of those looking for a new team will have wanted to tryout for Stars/Capital and perhaps end up on their "B" teams. Will also be interesting to see where Madlax girls draws from, particularly as they are practicing at Landon. Maybe they pull from some of the weaker Montgomery county teams?

it seems like next level was still taking looks for girls -- coaches seem good and my daughter seems to like them.

Yes, all the clubs had record numbers, but I think the answer depends on the Club, your daughter's graduation year, ability and position. Offers went out Sunday at Cardinal and today Pride, I'm not sure about Stars. The previous poster is correct that there's a lot of movement now so you may still have a chance to get a look. As I'm sure you've read, the Madlax Boys program doesn't have a great reputation so even with great coaches, I would be cautious. Good luck to your daughter!

Depending on the age group, some programs will still offer you a private workout to assess whether or not your daughter has the skills and athleticism for their program. I would just reach out to the club directors for the local Maryland-based and NOVA clubs.

Which team? Every single team tryout I heard about had about 3 times as many players out as spots available. And they are offering their spots today. My guess is that the Madlax tryouts will be teeming with all the players who didn't make a team. They have pulled together some great coaches it looks like, so worth a shot.

Even though the tryouts are over you can still contact them for tryout if they have openings. There are a lot of movement this week.

My daughter has only played rec but wants to play for a club team and we missed other club tryouts last weekend. I know the Madlax girls teams are new this year but wondered if anyone had thoughts on the program.
