So search for the correct form, print multiple copies and put them everywhere you would think to look so you are sure you have one when you're at the doctor. For me, that would be: purse, diaper bag (I have a younger) and glove compartment.

You only need one placard.

The hang tags are for a driver or for a passenger. I have one, and I'm the driver. My doctor had to fill out a form that I then took to the DMV, and it was mailed to me within 2 weeks.

Awesome! Thanks! OP here. We will probably ipt for a hang tag. Her father and I are not together anymore. Though we do like to minimize the number of things we have to swap every visit. Swapping the SN stroller is going to be a pain. I bought a 2nd stroller, and it made transfers easier.

No, we have one for our kid and had a choice of hang tag or plates.

PP here, maybe the people I know who got them for their kid just chose hang tags. Hang tags are convenient if your kid is moving between multiple cars.

Depends on how far she can walk without rest.

If you have a developmental ped, ask them. Ours responds quickly to email.

We have one for my daughter who has quad CP and is permanently dependent on a wheelchair for mobility. In Virginia, the hang tags are either issued for a temporary period or are considered permanent (though you still have to renew every few years). My daughter's pediatrician signed the form and it was a pretty easy process. I think we first got it when she was 3 or 4.

Pretty certain our friends with a son who cannot walk independently have one.

Definitely going to ask her. We have a new primary care manager with Tricare we have to make another appt with. My daughter just keeps asking about handicap parking.

I have friends who have them, so it's definitely possible. Also, if you live in DC and don't have off street parking, you can get signs to have a dedicated parking spot outside your house.

Silly question. Does anyone have a handicap car tag for a child with what I consider or hope is a minor walking delay? We are a year into figuring out a genetic muscle disorder. My daughter can walk, but gets tired quickly. We are over the limit on the height and weight limit for a heavy duty stroller. A special needs stroller is on the way. But there have been opportunities I think she could walk if we didn't park so far away.
