Pretty happy over here as well. I grew up going back after Labor Day. With all the school stressors of today (testing, tutoring, after school clubs), I couldn't imagine being a child in today's world. After Labor Day gave me a chance to mentally prepare myself during the last week of August. There was also one last summer hurrah for our family.

I do hope they stick to this schedule for years to come. Even though this was primarily for a business revenue reason. I'm glad to hear that community organizations continued to make sure families ate.

I hate it for lots of really good reasons, including all the ones the teachers have. But honestly, I'm enjoying not quite having my act together yet in terms of back-to-school.

Head north. Many northeast states aren't back until after Labor Day. It's still summer up there.

My kids are in private. I was just thinking this morning that I'm glad next week is their last week of vacation. They are tired of camp and I still have to work. Sure I'd love to stay home with them next week but well....I need to save up some PTO for the unexpected things in life. I think I'd be annoyed if they were home for another 2 weeks. Maybe Hogans mandate should have come with a side of mandatory paid vacation. We could declare the last week before school a state holiday. Stores could have sales and employers would give employees extra time off with pay.

Teacher here

I couldn't be happier. All of my former DCPS colleagues went back last week for pre-service week and their students start Monday. I've been home all summer with my DCPS child and finally get a one week breather to myself followed by pre-service week, which is a breeze.

I never want to go back to the school routine. I have one starting 10th in a magnet program, one starting middle school for the first time, and my youngest starting at a new private for K.

I actually had conversations with my oldest this summer, went out to Starbucks and just chilled with her, had my middle one enjoy theater camp and get to just be himself, and my littlest is the happiest kid in the world so long as she is in the pool.

I hate the hustle of the school year and getting up at the crack of dawn and cold, dark mornings in the winter. Blech.

Not happy about it. It works out ok for my family but I feel bad for all the Kids who depend on the free breakfast and lunches. Our school does weekend food bags too so they miss a ton of aid over the summer.
Also annoyed that the governor placed a higher value on OC profits than in quality education. It is shameful.

No. I'm furious. I'm a teacher. My team just drafted our calendar of assessments. It looks hellish for the students.
