You are ignorant. Google world University rankings. Oxbridge is on the very top and has an enormous traction all around the world.

If you want to get a cheap degree from a no-name university, there are plenty of them in the USA.

i'm also from the UK. There were once Universities and Polytechnics. Then the polys started renaming themselves as "Universities" but without any upgrade in terms of the education provided or the credentials needed to get into them.

It was largely a PR exercise in making things appear more "equal" even though they were not.

This place you list sounds like one of those, or a recently formed college.

If the course is great and feeds into your career needs I say go for it. But you should visit first and see what you make of the place / people / tutors and find out about career outcomes, from them too.

good luck.

Are you the same poster that's also interested in speech pathology?

I have researched and asked around, and the thing is, I really don't know. It's like a wait and see thing and hope for the best. I can only stay there after if I a) get offered a job by a company who will sponsor me or b) meet someone and get married from there.

Just be prepared to answer the inevitable "why did you go to school there?" questions. If you have a reasonable-sounding answer, you'll be OK.

Most people in the US know only Cambridge and Oxford. They wouldn't know Univ of Kent from CCU.

It's Canterbury Christ Church. I like the area and they had a program that applied to me, but now I regret not applying to another program that appealed to me at University of Kent. They're ranked much better overall.

I'm from the UK - what university is it? Why did you choose it? I can imagine that if you have great reasons for choosing it that you could articulate in job interviews/cover letters then it should be OK but it depends on the sort of jobs you'll be applying for afterwards. If you'll be applying for jobs in the US, many people won't have heard of many UK universities other than the obvious handful and so as it is not one of these, it may not make much difference which one of the others it is.

I was worried about asking professors to send more than one LOR and the whole process was so intimidating. This university only became a university in 2005 and before that it was a college since 1962. So that's part of why it has a lower ranking. I'm having really cold feet.

Why didn't you bother applying to other schools? What do you want to do after graduation?

Will it hurt me when I start looking for jobs if I attend a low ranked university? I just looked and it's like 114 out of 130 but it's mostly because it's considered a "new" university in the UK -- not in the literal sense, but the UK classifies universities that aren't super old as "new" universities or they just got the status of university (instead of college) fairly recently (like in the 90s).

It's for a Public health degree and it's the only grad school I even bothered applying to.
