I highly doubt Trump would resign. The ONLY reason I could see in his mind would be if he was just tired of being president, and having to deal with answer for people who dislike him. Every day there is dislike for him in the media and elsewhere (rightfully). Maybe then his ego cant handle that accumulation of people speaking out against him, so he may just think to himself that he'd rather go back to living at Trump Tower and eating his taco bowls and running his business.
Otherwise he is too self-absorbed and truly, pathologically, malignantly narcissistic that I do not think he has or will ever have the inclination to resign. In his mind I highly suspect that his resignation, under ANY circumstances, is a big whopping LOSS for him in this 'game'. He's not going to bring that kind of loss on himself, he's gonna make other people take him out and go down swinging.

Not having Trump in office takes the wind out of some key sails. Nobody will mobilize the opposition like Trump. He is a huge liability at this point. Mueller is needed here. I want Trump to leave in disgrace, but I want him to take Pence and Ryan with him - summer 2018.

Assuming Trump does not start WWIII, which is entirely possible, I want that loon in office until right before 2018 midterms. Having Trump as president is the best chance for moderate Republicans and Democrats to gain congressional seats.

I think in the end that will be his decision and it will be impulsive and come as a surprise. The longer he stays the more likley he will try to make it four years, so I think it will be within a year from today.

Everything in his past behavior suggests it. Remember Trump Airlines, Trump Steaks, Trump Casinos, Trump Mortgages, Trump University and on and on? He ALWAYS pulls the plug when the cost is too high.
I don't think he's having fun with his Presidential life. He has spent his life doing exactly what he pleases - he doesn't want responsibility of running a country, reading boring policy memos, people advising him on what he can or cannot do, newspapers criticizing his every move. I think it's totally believable that he will resign at some point so he can return to his comfortable life of luxury and being the boss beyond question or reproach.

I can convince myself of both possibilities (he will resign vs. he will cling to the WH with all that he can), but the one thing I've learned about Trump is that you can never predict anything about him. There is literally no rationale underlying what he does, and he seems to reshape space-time around him to make it equally non-sensical.
To me, the crazy thing right now is that we are even contemplating this question at all.
