Just did a good search for this as well. Know this is a long-dead thread but I wanted to weigh-in and state that I absolutely adore the styles at Crew Cuts (JCrew).
Classic, not garish at all, very good quality (though I find that their cottons are so soft as to be too thin sometimes).

Petit Bateau is perhaps the Frenchie equivalent, but less trendy than Crew Cuts, very solid basics, if you can find them.

Ralph Lauren occcasionally has something stunning.

I used to buy the cutest sweaters and turtle necks for my older grandson at Talbot's kids. Now I have a toddler grandson to buy for. I like Ralph Laurent sweaters and I also order many of his nice things online from Oriented Express, a New Orleans store. They are pricey too, but I usually get things on sale there. I like the Jon-Jon style things for my grandson and they are hard to find except at Oriented Express.

Gotta say, I just splurged for Hanna Anderson underpants for my potty training 2.5 year old and the quality is really great. I'm a Gymboree/Gap fan but the Hanna stuff is solid. Doesn't shrink or fade at all with lots of washing. And I'm not typically up for paying the same prices for my toddler's clothes as for mine!

my dd is 13 1/2 and is in a size 14 she is petite, so I have been buying her size 2P at the regular Talbots stores and we have a great talbots outlet by our house. Also I do well for her at the Ann Taylor and Ann taylor factory outlets by our house too. If your child is at that age where little girl clothes are just too babyish and you dont want them dressing inappropriate for their age I suggest just what I do. Of course I pick and choose and look for youthful classic clothes, I dont want my dd looking like an old lady either! MOM OF 3 FROM nj

CWD is based in Richmond. I happened to be going by it a few years ago and they had great deals in the store. I dont know if it was a one time thing but it may be worth stopping in if you find yourself in Richmond at some point.

My kids are older so I didnt even know Talbots Kids was gone. Sad.

I am really impressed with Land's End for basics. Their quaity is outstanding. Stands up to a full seaon of wear with no shrinking or fading. Their styles and colors are more traditional.

I was a Talbot Kids lover too. So sad that there is nothing quite it's equal. I've gone to CWD Kids online for the basics, some Gap. My MIL says that Lord and Taylors have a good selection and if you hit the sales you can get great deals. That's my plan.

H&M, Target, and Goodwill.

I agree with Hannah Anderson, the colors are a bit garish, and their sales aren't as good as Talbot's.

I love the clothes at Hanna Anderrson--they can be pricey too, but their sales are great and the quality is excellent. I also like Osh Kosh, but I think you can only find a good selection of their things at their stores in the outlet malls, like the one in Leesburg.
