Or left their phone somewhere, or has the ringer off.

So is there a way to get rid of the spammers? This morning I didn't look when I answered my phone. It was a recorded voice that was made to sound real (you know, "Hi, <giggle> This is Cindy Lou and I am calling about your credit card ..."). I said "Take this number off of your list" and hung up.

But then all day, perhaps once every hour or two, I've gotten phone calls from numbers I don't recognize BUT that have the same area code and pre-fix. Like, if my number was 301-878-5555, then the first call and all subsequent calls were from 301-878-5xxx. So I have been declining and then blocking but it is a tedious process.

Is there any hope? Any suggestions? TIA!

I've had to do that, too. Tedious, I agree. Hope I don't miss a real caller!

That is my worry! That it will be an emergency, one of the kids calling from someone else's phone and here I am not answering and blocking the call. On the other hand, I don't want to answer one and then get slammed again and again...

If my phone rings at a bad time because I forgot to turn of the sound, I just click the red button and not look at who it is. It's not personal.

I often decline the call if I'm busy, that way it goes to VM or stays as a missed call and I can call back later.

They might be declining all
-no need to assume it's personal

On iPhone you can at least stop the buzzing by pressing the power button. (The button on the right. Or on the top I think if it's an older one)

I've had t decline before & didn't want them to know. Just let it buzz like 5x, and then decline.

Straight to VM -- the phone is off.
One ring, then VM -- the person declined the call.
Multiple rings then VM -- the person is either busy or is covertly ignoring the call.

They usually hear one ring, at minimum, before you can send it. When its off, as you call it doesn't ring at all when you are dialing, just voicemail. If I hear a ring, then voicemail picks up, I know they sent me. Or are ignoring the call.

Goes straight to voicemail, so how can they tell whether you sent it or the phone is just off?

Yes, even my MIL that can't figure out how to check her own voicemail figured out when I did it to her.

You could set a silent ring tone for only that contact so you don't have to be bothered with that atleast.
