My 2nd grader would be devastated to miss it and I don't see any reason why he should. No risk at all as long as kids keep their glasses on. So maybe not for the PK'ers, if there aren't enough adults to supervise, but would be fine for everyone else.

BASIS is taking advantage of the eclipse - students are being given glasses provided by the Smithsonian.

Teacher here- our JKLM school's principal said glasses are already ordered/here.

I think DCPS had a certain number of the glasses and schools basically had to request them/get in line. I do not think they had enough numbers for all the schools. Some schools may have found alternative ways to get the glasses. Not sure which schools have them and which do not.

With the eclipse happening on the first day of school it will be nice if the schools would help students participate. Will your school be participating?
