They don't have a traditional nursery...but the nurses will offer to take baby for a few hours if you're having a hard time or while they do the infant testing do you can sleep. I just delivered there last month. That being said I thought the care a bit lack luster since my last delivery there in 2015.

ugh, thanks. It's too late to change my practice that exclusively delivers there.

Because very few area hospitals have nurseries and you select your practice not usually where you deliver. So if you like your practice--those who you go to for all appointments plus who you deliver with--you'll stick with them. If you value a hospital having a nursery, then you could find one in the area and then find who delivers there. Honestly, it's not something I was aware of until well into my third trimester and at that point no way would I change practices. I delivered at Inova Alexandria during slow times (Christmas) and the nurses offered to watch DS for us as I recovered from my C-Section. I don't think it's standard though.

I am lactivist but think the baby friendly name is totally offensive.

Prior to giving birth at inova Alexandria I was really against the no nursery. I wrote letters complaining about it! With my older two kiddos I nursed but overnight sent them to the nursery and had them brought back to me every 3 hours to nurse. At inova Alexandria I didn't sleep a wink after delivery with my DD rooming in, but my milk did come in much faster than it did with the older 2.

I hate this baby friendly stuff. It's just another code word for "cheap." Hospital is trying to save money at patient's expense.

We'll sort of. They have the room but discourage its use due to baby friendly cause. But when I gave birth in nov late at night and they offered to take the baby for a few hours so we could get some sleep because I had had some complications and we were first time parents. But dh and I declined. They really want to encourage breastfeeding so they would only take him a few hours, though, from what I understood.

There isn't a nursery, but I was alone and had a cs after a long failed induction, so the nurses took pity on me, and took my baby the first night for six hours so I could sleep. I formula fed--if you are trying to establish breastfeeding, you don't want to go this long of a stretch.

I don't think you can send the baby to the nursery there unless mom or baby has medical issues.

Does INOVA Alexandria have a nursery or do you care for the baby yourself at night? I went on the tour and it seems like they don't promote a nursery??? any experiences?
