Maybe she wanted Bryan all along (as she's claiming) but her insistence on a proposal with Peter was totally ridiculous given that most of the Bachelor/Bachelorette relationships fail. If this was the story line that the producers were insisting that she play, shame on her for going along with it as Peter was clearly rattled (unless he's a great actor). She came across as such a smart, strong woman that if she really did love Peter, she could have done what she wanted and ended up engaged on their own timeline -- not the show's. Very disappointing overall and I wonder how Bryan (and his mother, lol) feel after watching last night.
I was thinking this too, except I think that the first Bachelorette that is a POC not getting what everyone else gets at the end of this just sits badly with me. If Peter stays away from all things Bachelor going forward I think we will know that he was genuinely rattled/hurt and got carried away into something he probably shouldn't have started, I mean this is not a new show. Its sad because that seemed really genuine between them, it was almost painful to watch.
I think Rachel was still a little pissed at him when she watched the show back live and realized that the way it came across was that he sort of took away her choice, even though she kind of was the one that finished it when she said I don't want to pressure you to propose if that's not coming from you and walked away. Because it really did look like he only had 1 choice then, not that she made that decision between 2, even though she kind of did, just a day early. I don;t really blame her, it must be awkward to have to watch it with an audience and feel really wide open and vulnerable, so she went into sort of "i'm living my best life, this isn't for you but I wish you the best" mode, but in a really sort of defensive way.
Totally agree with this. Im a POC and I would be cognizant of being the first bachelorette in the history not to get a proposal. I also agree that time will tell With Peter. If he goes on to being the next bachelor then I think it confirms his reasons for not proposing. I could not tell if he was sincerely sad or acting at points. Although the fact that he basically asked her if she could assure him she would pick him did lean in favor of he legit was scared and not making up an excuse to get her to eliminate him.

I noticed that too! Seemed very intentional. Eric is a real class act.
Anonymous wrote:This pressure to propose thing is only an issue on the Bachelorette though. Why? It plays into the stereotype that women are desperate for the ring, not the marriage. Rachel literally said "gimme that ring!" right after Bryan proposed. Maybe it was editing, but my takeaway was that the proposal was more important than the marriage. The breakup with Peter was very raw and real and painful to watch.
I really respected her until last night, too, but she was a different person on the finale/ATFR. Just unnecessarily mean and cold to Peter. It was obviously a defense mechanism but I didn't think she handled it well when Peter was obviously hurting.

It was a devastating break-up and I don't see how Rachel can watch that episode and not feel regret, but ultimately I think Peter was just not that into her. Why go on a show like the Bachelor if you weren't open to proposing?
The Peter and Rachel scenes were raw and seemingly real. I think Brian is as fake as it gets. No way those two make it to any serious wedding planning. Especially after his mom saw that episode!
