When I blew off my father's calls in college he eventually left a message that said I have 24 hours to return his call or he'll be up tomorrow to help me move home. If you respect your parents they won't need to take to social media

This lady is nuts. I think that checking in once every couple of weeks or so is fine, and I imagine (I don't have a teenager) that for kids this age they'd rather check in by text or on social media than a phone call. Your kid is growing up, and while they shouldn't be rude or dismissive of help from their parents, they're supposed to have their own lives. It's actually a good sign!

Any parent who expects her college-age some to call her Mommy needs a come to Jesus meeting.

I called my parents once a week. That was plenty. Today, my friends' kids text them constantly, it seems.

So you keep paying for phone bill, tuition, possibly monthly allowance of a person you no longer talk to? And when they need to be picked up for Thanksgiving and Winter break they text you the day before "Come get me"?
