So you didn't like these people but you're mad they unfriended you? Sorry, the only friends on my FB page are people I actually like and engage with on a regular basis. Get a grip.

I think that type of behavior is childish but I also think it can be very hurtful, especially when it's intentional. :'( I'm sorry this happened to you. <3 I try to use these kinds of experiences as examples of how I never want to treat someone else. There are definitely mean girls out there and I don't ever want to be one of them. I think some of it is just human nature. I commend you for protecting your child! Have you considered using this mean girl's behavior as an example to your child of how not to be? We only have control of our own words and actions and whether to become bitter or better after we feel slighted. I hope this will make you better. You are definitely on the right track! =) Have you considered talking to your mom about the way she is treating your BIL's family? Maybe you can help her after what you've been through. After a falling out, an acquaintance unfriended me and blocked me and I didn't even notice for over a year!

That's your standard, it doesn't have to be everyone's. I rarely block people, but I have blocked a handful whom I felt uncomfortable having access to things I posted. I didn't want to lock down my security settings too much, I'm okay with some "friends of friends" ability to see things, but there have been a handful of people where I wanted less access than that. No one is entitled to access to my Facebook posts, so I blocked them. Yes, I know they can get around it if they really want to, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're not that pathetic.

Of course people use social media, including FB, to be mean. The classic example is posting about a social event they attended, with lots of other people, with captions like "so glad I got to be here with all my besties tonight." And you're not there or in the picture.

It can really suck for teenagers and kids. But, I can see where it would sting a bit for adults too.

Just ignore it.

This is not an unreasonable observation. Yup, FB is used by passive aggressive people. It sounds like the OP doesn't have a a lot of free time to stalk FB. I can see how this is alarming.
News flash. Mean people use FB to hurt others. All ages do this.

You go out of your way to avoid a child and you're surprised that her mother decided not to be Facebook friends with you anymore? Sweetie, you need some social skills.

Good Lord, please volunteer or get a hobby.

Sorry, I do this from time to time and it's really not personal other than if I haven't had any kind of interaction with you in several years or if what we had in common (work, city, club, etc), we don't any more, then at some point I will unfriend you.

Also, people who don't collect friends just to increase their friend count often I friend inactive people. What's the point of having a friend who never shares anything? If you haven't even been on fb in a long time, people might start unfriending you for that.
