I am short. When I was a teen, I hated being short. But as an adult, I really do not care. My 8yo DD is tall for her age, but we will see. 'Que Sera, Sera'.
I am short too. I am 4'11" as an adult and was 4'8"/4'9" when I started high school at 14. I absolutely hate it! People call me "cute" and "sweet" instead of "hot" or "beautiful." I am 27, not 7! People used to pat me on the head until I told them to stop. I am an HS teacher and constantly get mistaken for a student despite wearing a faculty ID card and business casual clothes. Buying clothes is a royal pain, because I have to get everything tailored or it will fit perfectly in one area, but not well at all in another. I have to climb on shelves in the grocery store to reach items. If I gain 3 pounds, it looks more like 15 pounds. I would give anything to even be average height (~5'4").

Often a child's perception of peer group is driven by whether they are involve din sports, or which sports. Some sports like gymnastics favor shorter girls, wheres volleyball favors taller. So if she hangs out with a group of taller girl athletes, she's likely to feel like she isn't as tall as she really is, compared to all girls across the country.

I was very self-conscious (even though I played basketball!) of my height until college when I was roomed with a volleyball player freshman year and became an "honorary" player because I was tall! They all rocked heels and loved their height so I did too.
