I read online once (maybe here, maybe Reddit) about people 'borrowing' a friend's nicer car that is the exact match for their older, shittier car to get the in-person approval by Uber/Lyft.

I used to think that was just an online legend until I requested an Uber and the app told me a nice Honda Pilot was my car, but what pulled up was an older model Pilot (same color and the license plate matched) with heavy front-end damage and lots of pet hair in the back seat.

I've had some drivers not use the a/c and grumble when I asked them to turn it on. I've not had any flat out refuse. If it's balls hot out and you pull up in a car with the a/c blasting, that's the easiest way to get a big tip from me.

Some just want to save $$ and think AC drives up their gas costs.

You should have asked for it to be on. It was a nice night last night so drivers preference may have been windows. If u wanted air you should have asked.

OP, please grow a backbone. They're working for you, give them the instructions they need to make you a happy customer.

Yes. Not only because of the AC but for a dirty car and because he continually kept asking me which way to go. I don't know! I'm not the driver!

Good! I hate when obviously sh*tty drivers have high ratings because everyone is so afraid of giving out bad ratings. It doesn't help that Uber makes a big fuss for anything less than a 5, making the customer feel like they're being a bad guy by simply rating the driver accurately.

You didn't ask, so it your fault. Most people don't turn on their cars' AC at night and some riders (like me) prefer the windows down at night instead of the AC.

I've never heard of that. If the car is disgusting and the driver is bad/rude, I'll rate accordingly. If it's severe, I'll contact support, though support has been horrid lately. You literally have to say "I would like a refund," otherwise, it's "oh, we're sorry to hear that your driver ran 3 red lights and almost caused 7 car accidents. We strive for the best from our people."

I'm sure they do--their cars are required to be only a couple of years old. Some cab drivers and probably Uber/Lyft drivers turn off their AC because over time it uses more gas and reduces their profits. You should just ask them to turn it on.

Had one last night who took me on a thirty minute ride through standstill traffic...with only the front two windows open for air. The back ones didn't even go down. I was pissed because I showed up to a nice event (was wearing a dress, heels, etc) looking sweaty and gross.

Just curious-feel like it should be a requirement to have AC.
