I got pregnant before my first cycle after a m/c at 11.5 weeks. I was having betas drawn each week (I miscarried naturally, no D&C) and suddenly, my betas went up again. They were going to schedule me for a D&C (they figured retained tissue) but asked if there was a chance I was pregnant. There was one time after too much wine after a baby shower I sat through, and that surprise turned 3 last week

Lining is also a somewhat legitimate concern (rates of miscarriage are slightly higher if you conceive again before your first period, probably for this reason). However, I really think the main reason was to allow the women some time to grieve. So if you don't feel like you need the time, and you are ok with the minimally higher risk of miscarriage, I think trying again immediately is fine.

Grieving time? I hope not. That would be incredibly presumptuous of doctors. Some women might feel better moving on faster.

Yes, I don't think they ever come right out and say that directly, but from reading up on this, it seems like that is a strong component. I think doctors today are less likely to think that way, but it was very common in the past, and not all doctors are up to date on the recommendations and reasons behind them.

What does the ''n" stand for?
You mean D&C?

This. And also if you had a D&C you need a full cycle to rebuild your lining. If it was a natural mc, that's not a concern.

If you are working with a clinic, when you get your period is less important than when your beta is back to 0.

For dating of the pregnancy. My mom got pregnant with my brother after a miscarriage but before her next period. There was some disagreement about the due date.

It makes it easier for the doc to date the pregnancy.

Because Last menstrual period is how you date pregnancy.

I heard after a miscarriage you are more fertile, but I cannot find any support on why it is important to wait until you have a period before trying to conceive again. Many women have not heeded this advice and gotten pregnant quicker. Any advice?
