Let me guess - you own/your parents own a beach house?

What does it matter? You sound jealous, and like a petty, selfish, opportunistic user who claims to be someone's friend - if they need a vacation, a job a place to live or money, that is!

Absolutely don't say you're sorry.

Don't even make it about vacation time or anything. Just say:

"This a vacation we are planning for our family to spend time together. Will you be at the block party next week?"

Umm, have you gone with them in the past? If not, what have you said-or not said? Are you sure they're really seriously asking?

No. Don't.

They try to invite themselves on your vacation and you're worried about being rude to them?!

No more hints, just say "we aren't interested."

Post 07/23/2017 22:04     Subject: How to tell them we don't want to vacation together

A family we know from DD school is always askig to join us on our family vacation. Our DD does not get along with their child, and we have distanced ourselves over the last few years but they just don't get the message. We cherish our family vacations but we dont want to be rude and be so direct, and we also do not want to spend a week with them on a trip which we have arranged for our family, and they have invested zero planning or thought. Any advice on how to get them to get the hint?
