I have a friend with the last name Roach. The way people reacted to her name doesn't bother her anymore, but it was rough when she was a child.

We have one side of the family who are named Roach. I don't know why but I never even thought about the bug! But yeah, Fux is a tough one.

Why didn't she just have it legally changed to Dix?

That's a shame, because it sounds like NOT having an embarrassing name for you and your daughter meant a lot to YOU.

Maybe you weren't bullied in school?
--NP with a "not embarassing" surname, but I teach MS.

No, but to some embarrassment, I didn't date a really nice guy in college because of his embarrassing last name. No, he didn't go on to be a billionaire or marry a super model, but I feel bad that I was so shallow. Yes, I'm happily married.

I had a mildly embarrassing maiden name and married into an even more embarrassing name. At the time I liked the thought of everyone having the same last name but now really wish I'd kept mine.

Let's just say Ellis Island intake people did a number on this Northern European name.

I had an ugly and difficult to pronounce surname and I could not WAIT to take my DH's name. 4 girls in the family and we all took our DHs' names. My name now is beautiful and I am happy and proud to have it!
