Just to add to the story, he worked for a law firm right out of law school in a somewhat sciency legal field. He really didn't like it and moved into public sector legal work (of a sort, not probably what would immediately come to mind). When he returned to law, he also went into a pretty nonremunerative legal setting. He is well known in his field and loves the legal work, but does sometimes miss the paychecks he got in his first job.
