I see some teachers at my kids' elementary wearing too short dresses, year after year. Apparently it doesn't bother the Principal, but it bothers me! It's not that we can see their underwear while they're walking, but still... WAY above the knee is not flattering for overweight women who need to bend and squat.

OP here, yeah this is just not the case I'm in my 30s, she's in her 40s, and if I had to guess both of us are probably about the same on the attractiveness scale.

Not true. I once had to tell an underling that she needed to dress more appropriately for the office. She was a tall girl and a dress that would be mid-knee on most women was scandalously short on her. I HATED telling her, but she was a good employee and someone needed to do it.

I think she handled it just fine - she didn't embarrass you in front of colleagues. Better she tell you than for you to wear it again and have others remarking about how they can see your underwear.

I can totally understand why it'd be embarrassing (I'd be mortified too probably), but just try to move on. And if you can, have someone check your outfit BEFORE you go to work

I don't find that objectively mortifying, but I'd feel the same as you if I were in your shoes. I don't like anyone to be "mad" at me.

Just think, in 6 months, this will be forgotten (unless you continue to wear short dresses). You could take the piss and start wearing turtlenecks and Maxi skirts.

It is an embarrassing moment but also info you need to know. She did you a solid, discreetly. Also if she thought you were a lost cause, she wouldn't have bothered.

Sorry. Sounds like she and you both handled it pretty well, though.

I ended up in a meeting with two higher-ups on the day I happened to wear a new dress that I didn't realize was going to be bad for moving around until I was already at work. I think I hid it pretty well, but I was mortified and never wore it to work again.

It happens.

Did you follow up with her afterwards? Was it too short in hindsight?

I really didn't know it was that short, but I was filing something when she was in the room and she leaned over and whispered "Larla, I need to say this. When you bend over, your dress is way too short. It's not appropriate for the office." I probably turned beet red - I'm usually a pretty conservative dresser, rule-follower, etc.
