Check out Smithsonian Associates. Many local events, some with extra mingling opportunities, such as receptions. Quality people, male and female, some actively on the prowl.

I met my husband on OkCupid, but that was a few years ago, so I'm sure other dating sites have taken over. Go on a lot of first dates, but keep your alcohol consumption in check (if that's an issue for you). I made a lot of mistakes in dating because I drank too much to get over shyness, but that just led to feeling "instant connections" that were totally false.

If you're athletic, join a mixed sports league.
If you like running, join a running club.
If you like arts, go to meetups.
If you like reading, join a book club.

Bars are horrible if you're over 30.

When I go to bars it seems it's all 20 somethings.
I'm a teacher so I'm typically surrounded by children and females all day.
Ideas/suggestions/words of wisdom?!
