We were there over spring break. This is all excellent advice.

Second the recommendations for Luquillo Beach, the kiosks in Luquillo, and El Yunque rainforest. We also loved visiting the forts in old San Juan. Also, the food is excellent.

All this and if you are going with kids, go to pigeon park in Old San Juan. We loved it.

Food is excellent, but don't expect it to be cheap.

Saying as Puerto Rico is part of the US, why should that surprise anyone?
Since I've seen comments like this several times, let's all say it together...PUERTO RICO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MEXICO!!!

Old town of San Juan is beautiful, but beaches in the city are no good. Don't run over the stray dogs.

It's like going to Taco Bell instead of a real Mexican restaurant.

Visit Luquillo beach and the kioscos (food stands) when you're over near El Yunque (the rainforest).

Go to the artisinal popcicle place in old San and let me know how it is (the line was around the block when we were there).
