Maxing each year along with 6% match and 4% match along the way has helped us out a lot. We got married when we were 21 and lived way below our means the first few years (shop at Target, expense all meals to our employers). Both of us in finance. We picked low cost Target Retirement funds - nothing fancy

Just keep going OP. It eventually turns a corner and starts to grow vs relying mostly on your contributions. The first few 100k are truly the hardest (plus we've had a huge run in recent years). At 27, DH and I each had around 80k (160k). Now 5 years later, we have nearly 500k combined. Incomes went up, we had living cost savings by getting married so we could throw more at it, matches, growth.

You'll be fine.

I didn't enter the job force until 25 after law school and bar since I went straight through. I've been working 4.5 years, and have $38K. My salary is $115K, but a significant portion goes towards loan repayment. It'll be a while before I get there!

Can you guys share how you got to o/a 100k by age 27? I am genuinely curious. When I was 23 at my first job I made 40k and needed pretty much every penny of it to live in this area and pay my bills.

How long have you been working and what is your HHI?

We had less than 100k at 27 (which felt inadequate) and more than 5M a little less than 20 years later

Keep saving and take the opportunities when they find you.

Uh, I'm 29 and only have maybe 15k in retirement. I do own a house, however, so it is my goal to ramp up contributions as soon as I have replenished savings.

I highly highly doubt many people outside this bubble have 100k!
