I live in SF, OP, and here you go.
No, you can't see Hamilton. But! See if you can get yourself a matinee ticket for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. If you're staying near Chinatown, there is a little french bistro right on the edge called Cafe de la Presse that's pretty good. Chow as the other PP mentioned is okay - the closer one to where you'll be staying is Chow on Church. But actually, there's a restaurant across the street from Chow called Crepevine that I like even better.
Hayes Valley is a fun little area to wander around in - a bunch of cute shops and restaurants. Also, go to the SF MoMA. Then take yourself across 4th St to the Metreon and go see a movie.
If you want chinese food, do NOT eat it in Chinatown. You can go to these four places:
1. Yank Sing
2. Out the Door in the Ferry Building (or hell, take yourself to Slanted Door if you can get a reservation)
3. Canton Dim Sum on Folsom Street off 3rd
4. Tao Yin in the Mission

One of our favorite restaurants when we lived there was Chow. There's two locations, one in the Castro and one by Golden Gate park called Park Chow (9th and Irving). There's also a cookie place that's great called Anthony's Cookies, it's near the Mission (Valencia and 25th). I can't wait until we visit again!

My husband and I are going to San Francisco, where we haven't been in 20 years. He will be training during the day, and I would like to plan some fun evening activities for us (besides the obvious :wink. Also looking to optimize my two free days, since I'm not sure when I'll be back this way.
Staying near Chinatown. What would you do if you had a couple days on your own in SF? What would be your ideal date night there? Hamilton will still be there when we are, but probably long since sold out (not to mention spendy).
