It's different from sex with a stranger. It's way more serious because of accessibility and history. If kids are involved it's pretty heavy for them. If either person is in a new relationship, it's definitely cheating, unless there's some kind of hall pass or understanding.

I think it's worse for the person being cheated on. I'd definitely break up with someone for a fling with an ex. Less sure if I'd do it for a true one night stand. Ymmv.
