But the short answer is no. Kids raised by single moms do not do well at all.

I could presumably freeze my eggs and have the same amount of reproductive freedom as a male, waiting until my 50s to have a kid if I wanted to- or even later.


I'm 40 now with a 7 year old and a 5 year old. No way would I want to be 50 taking care of an infant, regardless of whether it was physically possible to have a baby at that age.

I would absolutely offer to pay for this for my daughter when she is in college (why wait, the eggs arent getting younger). Just a bit of an insurance policy. Even is she does meet the right guy, if she is older then she may still want to use the younger eggs.

Eggs aren't always the issue in infertility. You also have to carry that baby.


You can hire a surrogate.

Because there are only so many high paying jobs. Not that it's a bad thing, but men have to compete with twice the number of people they used to for high status jobs. Seems obvious to me why these women may have a hard time finding equally successful men.

I don't see it as any different from the trend that more people are choosing to not have kids or wait longer to have kids -- if it had been a viable option in past generations, they would have too. Culture and society changes, and that opens options for people to do what they truly want instead of what they think they're supposed to do.

That said, if marriage/kids is important to a woman, I always tell them to make it a priority in their late 20's. The options don't get better, on the whole, as you get older. Shit you won't deal with at 26 is something you'd kill for at 36.


It's not so much about options- I know I was focused on school and my career at that point and frankly, just going out and having fun. I didn't meet my husband until 30 and I am glad- I don't think I would have appreciated him before that time.

Time to refocus in the boys.

Boys in America have been lagging behind for years. Represented 20% less at most Universities. Fatter, unemployed, and huge amount incarcerated etc.

Take your sons to work day, boys on the run, stem for boys too, etc. ....hmmmm????

This is very exciting. As a young woman in her late 20s, I could presumably freeze my eggs and have the same amount of reproductive freedom as a male, waiting until my 50s to have a kid if I wanted to- or even later. Wonderful. I'm gonna look into this

Egg freezing has also come a long way in the last 5 years. I think more women would have taken advantage of this in past years if it was an option.
