I'm reading "Queen Sugar" and enjoying it.

I'm really into Tudor England history, and have loved Allison Weir's books--especially "The six wives of Henry VIII"

Also, I recently read a book, "The Five Points" https://www.amazon.com/Five-Points-19th-Century-Neighborhood-Elections/dp/0452283612
and I really enjoyed it. If you saw the movie "Gangs of New York" and found that time period/location interesting, you would like this book.

I'm reading the new David Sedaris book. It's fun if you like him.

Depends - do you want a dark memoir or a funny memoir? For dark, the Alexandra Fuller one ("Don't Let's Go To the Dogs tonight") and The Glass Castle are good picks. I also enjoyed "We Were the Kennedys" about a family growing up in Maine. For something lighter, I enjoyed "Bossypants" by Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling's books. I also loved "Unspeakable," a book of essays by Megan Daum.

For light fiction, I highly recommend "Modern Lovers" by Emma Straub, "The Vacationers," also by Emma Straub, and "Happy All The Time" or "A Big Storm Knocked It Over" by Laurie Colwin. I also like Ann Patchett's writing - she has a great book of non-fiction essays called "This is the story of a happy marriage" and in terms of fiction, my favorites by her are "Bel Canto" and "State of Wonder" - and her newest one, "Commonwealth," is also pretty good.

For non-fiction, I really enjoyed The Price of Illusion by Joan Buck. Seems like a light memoir by the Editor of Vogue Paris, but ends up in a different place. For another view of some of the same events, I read Angelica Houston's memoirs (A Story Lately Told, and Watch Me), which I also found very interesting view into the life of a child of a celebrity.

If you're into politics at all, Shattered is excellent.

For non-fiction that is easy to read, but very well written, I'd recommend Amor Towels' books -- A Gentleman in Moscow, and The Rules of Civility.

Not light, but good, is We Were the Lucky Ones, a fictionalized account of the author's family's survival during WWII.

I got Lauren Graham's I'm Talking as Fast as I Can for a beach read, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

How about the Erik Larson books? Non-fiction written like fiction. I particulary love In the Garden of the Beasts. Dead Wake is also really good.

It's a few years old, but I just read Carrie Fisher's wishful drinking. I laughed out loud several times. She was a great writer.

Anyone remember where that thread/list of funny books is? I saved it but can't find it right now. Was on this forum.

I'm looking for a good vacation book. I'm more a fan of non-fiction; I love a good memoir or true story. I just can't do Chic Lit or basic fiction paperback-type books, even on vacation. I CAN do Liane Moriarty, but I've read them all already.

Tell me your suggestions!
