Do you have to be there when he comes to pick up his things?

Sure, i would think calling the police would be a good idea and give you some piece of mind. That's what public services are there for.

And, as someone who worked in family law- you will never believe the level of crazy people (but mostly men) will stoop to during the divorce. So, if it were me, I would have them come.

+1 The police have more important things to do than become involved in your drama.

Go to the police station and ask if you can talk to an officer. Maybe someone specializing in domestic relations. Explain your concerns and ask if it would be OK for a cop to be nearby. Many jurisdictions would rather prevent an incident than have to clean up after one.

This. It doesn't have to be a cop, but have people there.

If you feel like you need them, do it. Get someone to be there, not necessarily police (unless they're absolutely necessary).

Don't do it for dramatic purposes. I didn't know he would leave me sounds like a dramatic reason.

If you're worried about him damaging stuff, taking stuff that isn't his, or trying to hack anything of yours have someone present when he is there.

This.

Please do not tie up police services for nonsense when during that time period there may be someone who needs actual emergency assistance.

If you are concerned, yes, rent a cop. Have friends and family over. Whatever it takes to make yourself comfortable.

What are you concerned will happen? What are you afraid if? Is there a history of explosive anger or abuse? I'm not understanding why you feel that police presence would be necessary.

My husband and I are getting a divorce. In DC, can you have the police come and watch your ex when he picks some of his things up? I know he's bringing someone with him to help him move things. I don't think he'll hurt me, but I also never thought he'd leave me either. Will DC police even come if you call 311 or do they not do that here? I can't find anything on the DC police website to suggest that they offer this service.
