The group chat messaging systems between android & iPhone are not compatible, with the exception of texts/sms.

My 14 yr old chats all day long with a big group of friends. He has an Android, most of his friends have iPhones. But they mostly talk via Snapchat so I'd guess the platform doesn't matter for that.

Most kids have iPhones. It does make the messaging different, and your son wouldn't be able to read text messages sent via computer (on iChat).

My son is a rising sophomore. He told me that he was not invited to his friends chat group because he uses a Android phone. He was told the iPhone text message is blue color, but android text message is green color and people think it is annoying. He was not happy about that had asked his friends to add him. But they said NO. Now he thought the real reason maybe he is not popular, not like able. That's totally not true. He is a very easy going and general kid. He said 99% of his friends use iPhone, is that true? Do we have to buy iPhone for him so he can join the group chat?
