My DS worked 8-10 hours per week during his senior year in high school and ~20 hours/week during the summer to earn his own spending money for his first year in college. He also bought his own books. I don't know how much he spent TBH. He did not work during the college year. He is working again this summer for spending money for sophomore year.

I did buy him some things through the school year; e.g., he outgrew his suit and needed a new one; a new, warmer winter jacket since winters are colder at his school than they are here.

Same. I mean my kid is pretty cool but I wouldn't describe him as a stud. We give him $1000/semester but pay for frat dues separately (required for even moderate studs at southern schools).

I put $100 on her debit card each month....she really learned the value of a dollar, vs just throwing stuff in the cart when she was a kid, it's an eye-opening excercise for sure!

We send $0.00. She is responsible for any non-academic costs. She is a rising junior and thus far, she has been able to cover everything she wants by only working in the summers, but if she wants more than that, she is free to get an on-campus job.

She probably spends $150/month.

DC is responsible for his own spending money and earned it over the summer and during the school year (he works 8-10 hours/week). He spends about $30/week.

We cover room, board, and tuition.

My son spent around $1000 for personal spending in his first year of college. He spent around $1500 in his second year.

I have a child going away to college this summer. How much $$ do you send your child each month? She is living on campus at a university in the south.
