NCRC is one of the best play-based preschools in DC. It's in Cleveland Park

In terms of Montessori in the neighborhoods you mentioned, there is Franklin Montessori, Aidan Montessori, Georgetown Montessori, Little Flower. All of them have proponents and detractors so you really need to visit and make your own judgments about what works for your child. In terms of play-based preschools, I've heard good things about the DC Jewish Community Center (I think that is Reggio-Emilia-based) and School for Friends.

+1 We loved the primary program at Aidan. But I believe the program for preschool begins at nearly 3YO and is supposed to go for a 3-year curriculum -- and you said you're not sure if you're going to stay in DC or not.


Sorry, just reread your post - seems like you're just not sure which neighborhood in DC you will settle in. If you're interested in Montessori, call Aidan and do a tour and see if it's a good fit for you! Good luck in your search!

I think they posted something in the Dupont Parents listserv recently saying they had spots open for this fall. Our kids didn't go there but I've heard great things about this school from a lot of neighbors who sent their kids to School for Friends. I believe it is a play-based Quaker preschool.
