Really? Why not just wait until tomorrow in that case? I can understand if the call was at 6.30 but not at 9.

Not that I know of.

Is there something in your background that could be concerning to HR? And the other managers either didn't know or didn't care?

Normally i would assume that the "big boss" didnt like me as well but actually that interview went very well and he too (Big boss) gave me a lot of positive feedback. The hiring manager also said he spoke to BB and he liked me.

The interview with the HR person on the other hand did not go well and i didnt get a good feeling about it. It was undoubtedly my worse interview with the entire group. His message about Big boss feedback was totally opposite to that of the hiring manager.

TBH Im surprised that both of them said these things to me (apart from the fact that it was contradictory). Is this a bad sign overall re the company?

sounds totally inappropriate for the hiring manager to say that you'd most likely get an offer. i dont know anyone in HR who would say that without having checked with all the stakeholders and run background checks, called references, etc.

anyway, hope you get the job but I would stick with 'mixed messages' for now.

Move on. You said the big boss said you'd either be dropped or kept warm while they interview others? The big boss didn't take to you. NBD.

I've had the interviewer tell me they'd decide in a couple weeks, only to be called with an offer 20 min later.

I would put more stock in what the business person said over the HR person. I think in most companies that relationship is tighter.

Thanks PP. OP here. I also had an interview with the hiring managers boss and he told me that his boss liked me. So i was bit surprised by the HR managers message that he ( the big boss) was on the fence about me and wouldnt make me an offer.

I'd read it like the hiring manager really liked you (good!) and the hiring managers boss was sort of to be informed after and the hr manager was covering legal or other bases so you didn't think you had the job.

I had a series of interviews today for a new job. At the end i met the hiring manager who said that everyone I met like me and that he would most probably to make an offer to me tomorrow.
In my wrap up session, I met again with the HR lead who said that the company would either drop me from the process or ask me to continue talking to them but they would speak to other candidates. He said the hiring manager's boss told him this.

I was a bit taken aback but I suppose this trumps anything hiring manager said? I suppose I will know for sure in the next couple of days one way or another but isnt this a bit strange?
