None of our 5th graders are going! They had their ceremony last night and I didn't hear of a single kid who planned to go today.

Younger elementary kids are going.

So, finishing curriculum means they can't learn? All learning is tied to the curriculum?

When I was in school, late 90s, early 00s, we did help clean the school on the last day. I thought it was fun to see friends in school again, and took pride in my school.

I'd send her to school with a books of Chekhov's short stories, have a find a quiet space to read them and write me a 2 page report on one of them. I bet she won't tell me there's no school next year.

Not one absence at Beverly Farms ES, from what I have heard. Every student is there and ready to get in one more day of learning.

This was true when there were finals in HS. No classes were actually scheduled. Kids were not required to go at all..unless they had to make up an exam. Today is different. It is a required school day. I was really close to letting my kid stay home as I know it is a total waste but I am committed to him attending school when in session...and he has plety of free time coming.

At our MS, the 8th graders have a short field trip to their high school next year today. It obviously isn't a very long trip. They are close enough that they can walk there in < 30 minutes. I think this has been the tradition for at least a few years.

Why do you care whether or not it's an absence? You know where your kid is, there's no need to lie, why do you care whether or not the school marks it as sick or just out?

Happens every year in every school district in the US. It sort of bothers me because I think missing school because it's 'just the last day' sends a negative message about education. I can understand this attitude coming from a bunch of immature kids, but dislike hearing parents sharing it. 'Too cool for school' ha ha.

So you know that HS is not going to mark this as an absence? Well, I wish I knew this, but I had no clue.

My fifth-grader is at school. My eighth-grader is not -- apparently school for eighth-graders at my kid's middle school ended after the promotion ceremony yesterday morning.

I'm in the same boat. Sent my daughter to high school today, but she's been saying all along that no one will be there. Sort of curious how this plays out today.

But, nobody is there, she is the only kid in class. Am I missing some info and last day of school is excused for all the kids? If it is not excused, are all the parents calling in to excuse kids? I know some might have travel plans, but not almost 1500 students. So, am I the only parent who send her kid to school and teachers actually were hoping that I wouldn't so they can leave?
