I'm a single parent, and I do online dating as well. I get overwhelmed and burned out quickly from it, usually after 1-2 weeks. At that point, I take a break, and focus on the connections I made (if any). If those don't pan out, I go back online about 6 months later.

I can't take a break from on-line dating. I am a 53 year old man and I have 5-10 quality women a week contacting me. I love the attention even if I only have time to date 5-10 percent of them.

I was on Plenty of Fish for a while in my late 20's. I was pretty up front that all I wanted was sex and hade plenty of takers.

I would have 2 or 3 going at the same time and think over the periods of a couple of years must have had sex in excess of 500 times (with maybe 20 women?). I don't know if I'm just getting older or if this worked it out of my system but not really interested in recreational sex anymore.

I now have a close GF and we have a pretty dull sex life and I'm more than OK with it.

You can have just as many compatibility issues in real life as you do online. My method was always to spend a week active on the site, connect with three men, give them my number, and disable my account. Usually two of the three were weeded out within the first week. The last one standing would last about a month.

I take breaks too. I have my DD 24/7/365 and most of the time, I am tired. I don't have a lot of energy for dating and not very men will even go out with me when thy find out I have FT custody. I'm on a break now.

I take breaks as well! Sometimes it gets overwhelming, disappointing and aggravating. So I'll take a break for a few months and refresh!
I agree w/ a PP, match & okcupid may be best for you if you're looking for a LTR and okcupid has hundreds of questions to answer to find like minded matches.

I take breaks. It takes a lot of time so when I find myself overwhelmed schedule wise, I jump off. Focus on me--and whoever I had started dating. Right now I've been on a break since march. I'll probably sign back on in sept. I'll use the summer to do meetup activities.

If you haven't, try a free or paid service, like Match or OK Cupid, that asks a lot of profile questions. I think you use a combination of traditional and online ways to meet people.

I 'm having a hard time dating online, I wish I could just do it for fun but can't for cultural/religious reasons. I'm looking for a LTR. I've come to the realization that I'm not going to find someone I like unless I date outside of my culture/religion because the pool of men I'm looking for is extremely small. It's a delema!

The other issue is that I don't have family in the US and I'm a single mom, I've been divorced for almost seven years. I was happy being alone all this time but I'm realzing that I enjoy dating and that I've been suppressing my needs for so long that whenever it doesn't work with someone, I feel lonely and sometimes depressed, these are feelings I didn't have before starting dating. I wish I could approach online dating a different way, be more open to just having fun and seeing where it goes but it is just not me.
