I was hired in APS as a first year teacher years back and so were many of my friends. June 15th is the deadline for APS to hire anyone currently employed in a neighboring county (local district agreement) so perhaps you will hear after that deadline.

Good luck! I love working in APS and wouldn't leave the county unless I moved from the DMV.

OMG. Believe it or not, FCPS also has a lot of smart, hardworking white kids. AA kids. Hispanic kids.

Please don't apply to FCPS.

APS also is well known for wanting to hire teachers with experience, especially experience in other local districts. After all, because of their relative attractiveness (better pay, better work environments), I think their feeling is why should they have to train? They would rather take someone that has been through the paces already. So, OP, you really need to get cracking and start applying to the other local districts. Get picked up by one of them, ride it out one or two years and then try again with APS. Other local systems: ACPS, FCPS, Loudon, Falls Church City.

That has nothing to do with work environment and happiness of staff. It's a job.

They may be trying to finish the school year and get a handle on how many kids and teachers they have coming back before making hiring decisions? School is still in session for two weeks. That said, our principal announced our new hires for next year at the final PTA meeting, last week.

I have a few friends who teach in APS but they were all at other local school districts beforehand, like Fairfax.

contact the principal directly. They have a lot of say on who comes into their school

You might want to contact the principal(s) directly, indicating your interest and experience.

APS is more desired because it's smaller and pays more. So it's harder to get into. Look at FCPS and FCCPS as well.
