It's worth a shot, but often you won't get asked to interview or hired without experience unless you are an internal candidate and/or know someone. For example, PACU requires knowledge of ventilator weaning and extubation as well as occasional titration of vasoactives. That said, my unit (ICU) now takes new grads in residency.

If they say experience in certain specialty, they usually mean that. Not unless you know someone that can talk to the manager and see if they can get you in. Might have a better chance if you apply at the hospital that you are at already. I work for IFH. They take new grads to most specialty units.

Hi, I am considering applying for jobs that require, for instance, experience in the PACU. I don't have the experience, but I do have med-surg experience. Waste of time, in general? Or do these sometimes pan out?
