Hmm, my rather crunchy/organic living stylist (who is a mom herself) told me to feel free to bring my baby next time (when she will be about 3 mo) because they are super easy at that age and sleep well with the sound of the blows dryers. My thought was that I don't love breathing the fumes off my highlights so I'd rather leave the baby at home with DH but I thought it was interesting that my stylist was supportive of it.

Better yet, photoshop the permed hair on to your baby! That's what we all came for!

How about just don't get a perm. Who does that anymore?

Take someone with you to hold baby.

Yeah, I really wanted this to be about perming a baby's hair.

Me too!

I had to scrap my entire response!

No way.

Find a sitter or don't get your hair done. Perms are not a necessity.

I once brought my 6 yo to the salon, and she sat in the waiting room, away from all of the chemicals, and her eyes still burned and watered. I wouldn't bring her back, and no way would I bring a baby.

No way, and I think any stylist who would do this is very reckless. The solutions they use could easily drip onto baby, even if there were no fumes (and the fumes are bad). What if something dripped into baby's eye!!??

Kids are out of school. Find a neighbor kid to come with you and either hold baby in the waiting area (still not ideal) or if it's in a mall area, to walk around with baby in the stroller. If you truly can't find a babysitter, which also seems crazy.

Wow, I thought this was going to be about giving a baby a perm. I was ready to sit down with some popcorn.

I don't think I would bring my baby because of the fumes, but if it is a well-ventilated salon I might consider it.

Do you really need a perm? Curious what your hair looks like afterward.

Well, I haven't had a perm since middle school but as I recall the fumes are horrible. No way would I subject an infant to that.

Really need to get my hair done. Going out of town this weekend.

Would it be ok to bring my 3 month old?

Hopefully she will sleep most of the time and then I could hold her while getting my hair done.
